East End Public Art
The East End is home to an impressive collection of public art and the area is particularly noted for its embrace of the mural-making tradition. Comprising the largest accumulation of murals in the city of Houston, these artworks can be found throughout the district on building exteriors, inside places business, and adorning bus shelters and train stations. Many of these artworks were commissioned and tell of the area’s history and culture, others are manifestations of Houston’s strong ties to an urban street art aesthetic, and still others hint at the East End’s continued embrace of traditional sign-making techniques. Collectively, the artworks form a colorful and dynamic visual landscape unlike any other in Houston.
